HTC Trophy which was codenamed as "Spark" is the latest for HTC Windows Phone 7 to be out on the market today.
The Hardware.
The HTC trophy is not much of a high end hardware device. It sports a 3.8 inch capacitive touch SLCD Screen which supports 480x800 pixels of resolution, 1 Ghz snap dragon processor, 512 Mb Rom and 576 of RAM, 5 mega pixel Camera with LED flash, WIFI and Blutooth 2.1 Support and 720p HD video Recording. It provides a 8 Gb storage space. It also includes various sensors for gravity, compass, proximity and ambient light etc..
The design
The device weighs around 140 grams which is quite heavier compared to its android models. The screen isn't plastic surprisingly its glass. The ear piece is barely visible on top of the glass screen and sports 3 touch buttons for back, start and search with LED background glow. One of the main drawbacks is that there is no front facing camera. It sports a 3.5mm Jack provison for your Music Headphones.
The battery
Trophy's 1300mAh battery and its ability to power the handset through the day. As you'd expect, battery life drops quickly when using the camera and video recording functionality even without LED flash support. On one particularly heavy day of usage, we shot about 15 minutes of video and 30 stills forcing us back to the wall charger after about 10 hours.
The camera
Trophy basically has re-incorporated the same camera hardware from the HTC Surround Handset. The camera does exellent job shooting outdoor daytime shoots but does quite poor on the indoor and at low light situation. Flash feature sometimes over bleeches the images making it look pretty bad. Trophy shoots H.264 encoded video at VGA resolution to a .MP4 container. While you can change it to shoot MPEG-4 encoded video at 720p resolution to a .MP4 container, the video resolution resets each time you exit the camera app. Overall the performance is not bad as compared to the older windows mobile in the series.
The Wrap Up
At the end of the day, you may find the trophys is not exactly the best smart phone out in the market, but it does justice to the price it is offered at.
